This website was created to present the results of my research on the Pirate Archetype and Pirate Psychology.
CAUTION: This site is RRRrrrr Rated

This is a website for Pirates and about Pirates.
No. Pirate Therapy is not just for people with a "thing" about Pirates. Because, the truth is that everyone (!) has a connection with piracy. That includes You. We are deeply immersed in a Pirate Culture. The values of the Pirate and the pirate lifestyle influence us everyday.
The underlying premise of Pirate Therapy is that each individual needs to be aware of all of the parts that constitute a whole person, or, what is unconscious will exert an influence that affects life in unknown ways. You can benefit from understanding more about the Pirate. Becoming conscious of the presence of The Pirate makes one more whole and has a healing effect.
Pirate Psychology is for those with the courage to seek the Treasure. The rewards include deeper Self-understanding and a share of the Mystic Bootye.

The Treasure: Quest for the Mystic Bootye
A Pirate wants one thing more than anything in life: the Treasure!
Pirate Psychology is a way to look at Life. Pirate Psychology provides a way to identify personal values, resolve the past, focus on goals, and pursue what is important. This endeavor is at the heart of the Way of the Pirate and is called--the Quest for the Mystic Bootye.
The Mystic Bootye is a symbol that represents what each individual feels will make them happy, content, and/or more complete. The desire for the Mystic Bootye inspires the seeker to Quest.
"Booty" is a word that pirates use for treasure. An "e" has been added at the end to indicate its special application in this case. And, it is "mystical" because it goes beyond the ordinary notion of things.
The Mystic Bootye has been called many things.
The Mystic Bootye may be different for each individual.
For a Pirate, obtaining the Treasure is life's goal. Knowing what the Treasure is, is key.
The true reward of Pirate Psychology is to identify and focus on what the Treasure means to you. This gives meaning to Life (a great treasure in itself). For those on the Quest and those who desire to know more about the Way of the Pirate, read on . . .
Living in a Culture of Pirates
"What we from our point of view call colonization, missions to the heathen, spread of civilization, etc., has another face–-the face of a bird of prey seeking with cruel intentness for distant quarry–-a face worthy of a race of pirates and highwaymen. All the eagles and other predatory creatures that adorn our coats of arms seem to me apt psychological representatives of our true nature." (--C.G. Jung)
In his lifelong study of the individual and the meaning of life, the eminent psychologist Dr. Carl Jung (1875-1961) came to the above conclusion, that "our true nature" is that of a "race of pirates" (and highwaymen). As a student of psychology I was interested in knowing more about our true nature and pirate psychology. However, I found that there were NO entries in the catalogs of professional psychology listed for the Pirate archetype or Pirate psychology. Then, I decided that I would make this the topic of my research studies. [jump to: UNOFFICIAL PIRATE: Quest for the Mystic Bootye to learn about the book.]
In this book I share what I found out. |
Pirate Lesson #1
If our true nature really is that of a "race of pirates," then why aren't we more aware of the presence of the image of the Pirate in everyday life? If you are thinking: Sure, we like pirate movies, pirate stories, and children (and adults) sometimes dress-up in pirate costumes for fun, but the only other "pirates" are those who illegally trade music or rove in the ocean half way around the world that we sometimes hear about in the news. Or, believe that Pirates are just an interesting fantasy, then, you have a lot to learn! Before I started my research on the Pirate Archetype and Pirate Psychology I had the same attitude. It is now my view that the reason that the presence of the Pirate in our life is not obvious is that we are so deeply immersed in a Pirate culture that we don't see it. It is everywhere, like the air, or water to a fish.
In order to be able to comprehend the influence of the Pirate you must first be able to see it.
To look at the Pirate is to look at the Self. To know the Self (know thyself) provides a healing function. There is a dark side to this experience that prevents many from further progress. The dark side of the Self is what psychologists call the shadow. The shadow consists of all the things that you would rather not know, would like to distance yourself from, and deny. To feel safe, we build up (psychological) walls, and (metaphorically) live in a "box." The things that we do not want in the box are banished to the Unconscious and remain Unknown.
The "box" seems safe, but it also cuts-off our ability to really know our whole Self and fully experience life. If you wish to stop being controlled by unknown impulses, you must be willing to look "out of the box" and encounter the shadow. Facing the Unknown takes courage, but the rewards are great. This is the Way of the Pirate.

The Language of RRRrrrr
Pirates came from many locations all around the world and spoke various different native languages. However, they had a lot in common. One of these was the "Language of RRRrrrr." With this single syllable they were able to communicate everything they needed in order to effectively accomplish their goals. It can mean many things, depending on how it is said, and is innately understood. Today, this expression still exists (in English) in the form of the word "are." Becoming aware of who you are and learning to express yourself are important steps in the quest to obtain the Treasure. Pirate psychology is one way. Click here for more on the language of RRRrrrr.
